Finish Your Script!

Get across the finish line. Whether you’ve got a polished first draft, a project that’s been “sitting on the shelf,” or you’re about to launch a query mailing, this class can help. In-class exercises delve into analyzing producer’s notes and coverage, solving long-term structure and character issues, and improving dialogue and pacing. After 9 weeks, Marilyn will read each student’s script and meet one-on-one for a detailed, 45-minute story conference.

Creating Great Scenes
The scene is the most basic unit of dramatic writing. Participants learn how to write an effective scene and how to take it to the next level! Students study the craft of scene writing and sequences. They write two short films using the learned techniques of set-up and pay-off, three -act structure, conflict, scene construction, dialogue and action!

In Our Dreams: The writer’s journey, How to use dreams in films
Use your dreams to tap into an enormous reservoir of images, feelings, and characters! This workshop shows you how to use your dreams to enrich your writing.

How to Write a Screenplay in 10 Weeks– The High School Edition
The Horowitz System is an original, visual writing system that teaches participants to create using their right and left brain! It easily enables students to synthesize their composition knowledge with powerful strategies for writing a screenplay!

How to Write a Screenplay – From Concept to Outline (The One-Day Intensive)
Students bring their story concept and characters and leave with a complete outline for their first draft! We start with the foundations of the Horowitz System™ using the Mythic Journey Map and Archetype Chart. Once everyone has an idea of structure and characters, we then work on the individual concepts and discuss forward steps to the outline. We work in small groups, brainstorming, developing characters, working with charts and other visual aids. It's a fun, intense and creative afternoon! Everyone leaves inspired to write and has a clear vision of how to start writing the first draft!
